Initiative to Support Belarusians Seeking Protection in the United States
BYACTION.ORG is a volunteer initiative formed to support Belarusian nationals seeking political asylum in the United States. The project was created in response to the growing need for support among political refugees from Belarus who are going through the legal immigration process and face the risk of detention or are being held in immigration facilities after the start of deportation proceedings to Belarus.
The Need for the BYACTION.ORG Initiative
Thousands of Belarusians have become victims of large-scale political repression and were forced to flee their country in search of safety and the chance to live without fear. For many Belarusians, fleeing the country became the only way to save their lives and freedom. The Belarusian regime’s repressive apparatus systematically uses torture, cruel and degrading treatment, arbitrary arrests, prolonged detention, fabricated criminal cases, and long politically motivated prison sentences. The United States has become one of the countries where victims of political repression can find support and protection. However, the heavy pressure on the immigration system, delays in case processing, and the increased risk of detention by U.S. immigration authorities create additional challenges for Belarusian asylum seekers.
BYACTION’s Work
The initiative provides comprehensive volunteer support to Belarusian asylum seekers, Our volunteers:
— Run a 24/7 hotline to connect people with our volunteers:
+1 (971) 901-02-03;
— Monitor immigration cases involving Belarusians in the United States;
— Assist people detained by immigration authorities;Help locate detained individuals;
— Explain how to contact a detained person or send money to their personal account at the detention facility;
— Guidethrough support programs available from the Belarusian democratic forces;
— Develop and implement emergency response protocols and provide targeted assistance in the most challenging situations;
— We are developing a knowledge base and establishing an expert center to provide reliable information, analysis, and professional assessments.
For people concerned about potential detention, a pre-registration procedure is available — an important tool to ensure timely notification in an emergency and coordinated and effective support for detained individuals.
